FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you take equity?
Nope! We're in this for the experiential learning. And because we like you.

Is there an age limit?
Nope! But we do ask that all participants be 19+.

Do I have to be a post-secondary student to apply?
Nope!

How about a Canadian citizen?
Nope! We accept participants from around the world.

When does the program run?
The program will run from May 1st until July 21st.

What kinds of businesses do you accept?
If you take a peek at our alumni page, you'll see that we accept businesses from a variety of different industries. As long as you have a creative business or innovative product idea, we'll consider your application.

Does my business need to be operational before applying?
No. Many participants open their businesses on Day 1 of the program.

Can I apply to work on an existing business?
Absolutley! As long as you are the one running it.

What kind of facilities do you have available?
Our team will bend over backward to get our cohort what they need to be successful. We arrange for a common space for teams to collaborate, work on their business, and hold meetings. Fortunately, being at the University, we can also access top-notch equipment and labratory space.

How much is the weekly stipend?
We recognize that starting a business is hard and we want our program to be accessible to everyone; not just those with savings or financial support. As a result, each founder is given a minimum wage stipend ($10.65/hr) for up to 40 hours a week for the length of the program. Obviously minimum wage is not going to be particularly profitable (that's what your business is for) - it's just to help cover the necessities.

Are there funds available to help develop my product?
Yes, each venture will have access to $2,000 for prototyping.

I'm applying as a single founder. Can I get accepted, or do you look for teams?
Yes! When reviewing applications, we treat single founders and teams equally. We trust that you know how you'll work best when building your business. If you want to build it by yourself, we'll support you every step of the way.

Is there a maximum number of team members who can apply?
Yes. We only accept three participants per team. If you have a larger group it will be up to the team to decide who will participate.

When will I know if I'm accepted?
Those who apply before January 31st with a well-defined business or product idea will be eligible for early bird acceptance. Those who are successful will learn of their acceptance into the program by February 15th. Businesses who apply after January 31st, or who are unsuccessful as early birds, will know by March 29th.

I'm coming from outside Fredericton. Where will I live?
Our team will help you find living arrangements for the duration of your stay. Your weekly stipend should help cover the costs.

Can I do this while working another job?
We wouldn't advise it, but talk to us about your situation if you are convinced that it's a good idea. In any case, we'll need everyone to be 100% committed to our scheduled program days.

I'm a student. Can I get course credit for this?
Yes! The Summer Institute will allow you to claim credit for TME 3913: Experiential Learning - Technology Management and Entrepreneurship. If you wish to receive course credit, you must register for TME 3913 as a UNB student and pay the associated course fees. There is no charge to participate in the Summer Institute, but we cannot award course credit to unregistered students.

Is my company "too far along" to apply?
We want to work with great people who are crafting impactful ventures (no matter the stage). Our team will work with you to develop a personalized plan and ensure you get the most out of the program.

I want to apply but I don't have a team or an idea. Will you pair me with someone?
Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to offer such a service. However, there are plenty of community events and classes offered at UNB where you'll find likeminded people. If you're interested, we recommend you visit us to chat more generally about the TME diploma program.

When are applications open?
Applications are open from January 2nd, 2017 to March 12, 2017.
